Automobile Industry; A Brief

 Automobile Industry; A Brief

We all are the fans of automobiles. As I have said earlier there are wast variety of cars in the world and most of them are in India too. The world automobile industry is contained of wide varieties of companies from different countries of the world like the Japan USA Germany Italy and many more. The world automobile developments has took place apparently faster pace and gradually the automobile industry began to build a pace. And when the world automotive industry was settled it gave birth to so many legendary cars and epic classics.. The British saloons were and are well famous four luxury then and now and the German sports Gt s where famous for there driving pleasure and the Italians where famous for their speed and the Americans for the power. And here is a report about the world automobile industry and the Indian automobile industry the evolution and development and the happenings during the Covid scenario.

Technically the automobile industry means the collection of whole society of
automobile enthusiasts, starting from us the enthusiast the mechanics the
engineers the painters even the one who works at the gas stations. But here we
mean by automobile industry is literally the automobile industry. So coming to
our topic; the automobile industry in the world began to rise again back from the
1920-1930 s after the great depression and the wall street clash making the
times tougher for the world car makers to survive through. And after that mess was cleared up and when things began to be put together back again the fate has played against it in the form of the second world war in the 1939. as the war
started most of the automobile manufacturing industries where transformed into the factories for making weapons air crafts and other war related essentials. And that saw the slow halt of the car production in the world. And gradually the world war 2 came to an end and that saw huge difficulty in reopening of the factories because many of the factories were out of shape due to the hits during the wartime. And many of them was to be completely re furnish, that was laborious and made the process slow down. So now lets go to a little flashback.

The automobile industry began to take shape in the 1860s when hundreds of
manufactures pioneered their horseless carriage. And as you will assume the United States led the worlds total automobile production. And then gradually developments took place, during the year of 1929 the world had a total of 32,028,500 automobiles and about 90% of them was produced from the US automobile industry. But gradually that percentage decreased as other auto industries began to flourish that is exactly after 1945 the 90% reduced to 75%. And then an unexpected rival popped out of nowhere and that was the author of the Drift cars the Japan, that happened on the year 1980. But the USA striked back again and recaptured the position in 1994. Then after a long time in 2006 Japan again passed USA and became the largest car manufactures in the world. But that too was for not so long soon after two years in 2007 China snatched the position from Japan with a record production of 13.9M units and that victorious journey continued until 2016 when the German company Volkswagen became the worlds largest automaker. And now coming back from the flashback as the war caused a situational halt in the production things was a little messed up. But that wasn't really a matter because as time passed by things had got back to the refreshed start. And before the war the pre-war designs designed by various designers became common. Then soon after the WW2 the cars which were manufactured in the pre-war period was simply reintroduced and many with the same underpinnings were restyled to keep it stand out. And as the things were quiet settled now came the concerns. And as you think the most common concern was the safety.

And as it is we are moving to the safety features of that time. Technically safety
is the term used to define the state which we are protected from any kind of danger which is a threat to our life. And the notion of safety in the case of automobile industry is the safety of the drivers and passengers along with the public so it is highly important and highly regulated. So as to ensure safety there are many regulations in the automobile industries to produce cars. The highest safety test for cars is the Global NCAP test which grades the cars with a number of different tests which rates the and the most safest car gets 5 stars. And the new Thar from Mahindra the Indian manufacturer recently that is during the time of launch have scored five stars in the NCAP test. Now again back to the topic the manufacturing companies have to follow certain rules as said earlier they include the LBH of the car and the different types of quality tests and checks and terrain testing etc. and the car will proceed to the next level
only if it passes the current level. And all these chaotic safety checks ensures the safety of the product and hence the safety of the driver and his/ her family and
hence the safety is ensured. And coming to the safety in the car there are many components or safety factors in the car which ensures the safety of the
driver his family and public. These includes the factors like the breaks the seat
belts and the new technical items like the ABS or the Anti Lock breaking system and the EBD or the Electronic Break Distribution. The detailed explanation of the safety systems will be in the coming posts.

So Now lets discuss about the economy of the automobile industry. Getting into
the economy of the automobile industry during 2007 there was 806M cars and
light
Pickups on the road consuming over 980B liters of Fuel. And no wonders why because you know that automobiles are the prime mode of transportation in the world. And the authorities predicted that by 2014 that is just 7 years back one third of the world demand would be in the 4 Asian market that
is Brazil Russia I. India China. But meanwhile the developed countries the
automotive industry has slowed. And many predictions says that this trend will
continue and the upcoming generation will lose interest in owning cars and. they will
afford the other ways of transport. And the developing markets will be more
abides to the production units and companies.

Now coming to the rankings in the case of most producing country is not Germany it is China according to the authorized reports with almost 27M automobiles produced since 2018 and the second place is for USA with 11M automobiles produced since 2018. and the third position goes to japan with 9M automobiles produced since 2018. and just after Japan with the production of 5M automobiles stands India . Now this is just a glance of the world automobile industry. Now lets discuss about the Indian automobile
We all are the fans of automobiles. As I have said earlier there are wast variety of cars in the world and most of them are in India too. But gradually that percentage decreased as other auto industries began to flourish that is exactly after industries. Ok lets go...................

As the developments took place in the world automobile industry the waves of development began hitting overseas to India. The Indian automobile industry began
to take its shape during the 1897, when the first car which was an
import not manufactured in India though ran on the Indian tarmac and these trend continued throughout to the 1930s and due to the lack of education and unavailability of the machines and technology. But during the 1940s things began to change. As the Hindustan Motors was launched as a competitor for the premier motors who
were building the Chrysler Dodge and Fiat’s products respectively.
And during the early period the toughest competition was between the Hindustan Motors and the Premier. One of the most Iconic model of the Hindustan Motors is the Hindustan Ambassador and the rival from the premier is the Premier Padmini.
The Ambassador was the VIP car of that time or we can say that is the most
luxurious car of that time with most of the officials acquiring the Amby as their
official car. Coming to ambassador; as production ceased the UK in the 1950 the
Hindustan Ambassador was created in India why I am saying about UK is that
Amby is the rebirth or re-badge of the European manufacturer Morris exactly
the Morris Oxford Series III. This Sires 3 holds the record of first car build on
the Indian subcontinent. All other cars were assembled but this was produced in
India. More in detailed information about Amby will be on coming posts. The
Mahindra & Mahindra company established by two brothers Kailash Chandra
Mahindra and Jagadish Chandra Mahindra. Actually there are three people who
started the business the third man is Ghulam Muhammad and again a detailed
post upon Mahindra will be coming in the future. O ooh I am saying that detailed
post will be coming soon again and again because its impossible to wind up once you
have started writing it. And I promise that there will be detailed post upon every
thing. OK now coming back to the topic they the three guys started the assembling of the Jeep CJ 3A utility vehicle. Following independence in 1947, the Government of India and the private sector launched efforts to create an automotive- component manufacturing industry to supply to the automobile industry. In 1953, an import substitution program was launched, and the import of fully built-up cars began to be restricted. So now lets discuss of some of the classic Indian cars which existed during the old times of India.

Hindustan Motors:- Number one on our list is the Hindustan Motors headquartered in Calcutta.
Hindustan motors have been technically collaborated with British car maker Morris Motors to manufacture Morris Oxford models that would later become HM Ambassador. The first one of them was the Oxford series three.

Addison's, Madras :- An Amalgamations Group company, was the agent for
Nuffield's Morris, Wolseley, and Riley cars, and Chrysler's Plymouth, Dodge, and
De Soto cars and trucks. The first Morris Minor assembled in India and the first
car assembled in Madras was driven out from Addison's twin-plants on Smith Road by Anantharamakrishnan on 15 November 1950. More information about the Addison's company is not available sadly.

Standard Motor Products of India:- Madras – technical collaboration from
Standard-Triumph to manufacture Standard Vanguard, Standard 8, 10 and later Standard Herald. As this is the least explained we can discuss about the Standard motors. Now the Standard motors India is the Indian automaker which was produced by Standard Motor Products of India Limited (SMPIL) in Madras from 1951 to 1988. the Standard Motors mainly was producing the Indian versions of  the European car maker the Starda-Triumph Standard Motor Products of India Ltd. (STAMPRO) was incorporated in 1948, a company formed by Union Company (Motors) Ltd. and the British Standard Motor Company. Their first product was the Standard Vanguard. The company was dissolved in 2006 and the old plant was torn down.

Premier Motors:-. formerly The Premier Automobiles Limited is a
manufacturer of vehicles based in Mumbai, India.[6] The company is owned by the Walchand Group. Walchand Hirachand established the Premier Automobiles Ltd.(PAL) in 1944 with the encouragement and support of Sir. M. Visvesvaraya. In October 1947 Premier Ltd. manufactured the first Indian made trucks and cars rolled out onto the streets of a free India.[7] Premier is well-known for its Premier Padmini which ruled the Indian car market and its popularity peaked during 1970s and 80s.

Ok that is all about it now lets move on to the automobile industry of India. From
1970 to 1983 the growth of the Indian automobile industry was relatively slow in
the 1950s and 1960s, due to nationalization and the license raj, which hampered
the growth of the Indian private sector. But the beginning of the 1970s saw some growth potential; and most of the collaboration license agreements came to an end, but with the option to continue manufacturing with renewed branding. But still cars were owned only by the elite class people and the jeeps were commonly used as the mode of transport in the government organizations and some rural organizations. By the end of the decade, some developments were made in commercial vehicle segments to facilitate the movement of goods. There was heavy demand on having more farm tractors, as India was embarking on a new Green Revolution; the demand was compensated by importing machines from Russia and the eastern bloc.

But after 1970, as restrictions on the import of vehicles were imposed, the
automotive industry started to grow; but the growth was mainly driven by the common vehicles like the tractors, commercial vehicles and scooters. Cars still remained a major luxury item as mentioned earlier. In the 1970s, price controls were finally lifted, inserting a competitive element into the automobile market. But, by the 1980s, the automobile market was still dominated by Hindustan and
Premier, who sold superannuated products in fairly limited numbers. The rate of car ownership in 1981 was about one in every thousand citizens – understandable when the annual road tax alone cost about half the average income of an Indian at the time. So simply saying the car ownership was
mountainous task for the common Indians. Comparatively the next decade, from 1970 to 1980 were really dull with no new models introduced, the country continuing to depend on two decades-old designs. The Sipani Dolphin, which arrived in 1982, was not a serious contender, with its plastic body and without rear doors – essential to Indian car buyers it was unable to make the impact on the Indian market. This situation forced the government to encourage
and let more manufacturers into fray.

Things began to change from 1984, when the then Prime
Minister of India, Indira Gandhi established the Ordnance Factory Medak, near Hyderabad. It started manufacturing Infantry Combat Vehicles christened as Sarath, the backbone of India's mechanized infantry. In 1986, to promote the auto industry, the government established the Delhi Auto Expo. The 1986 Expo was a showcase for how the Indian automotive industry was absorbing new technologies, promoting indigenous research and development, and adapting these technologies for the rugged conditions of India. Then gradually things began to take shape as we see now In the present India is the 4 th largest automobile industry in the world.

As experienced the arise of the Covid 19 virus has
made it difficult in the automobile industries all over the world. Many of the automakers were forced to clamp doe the factories due to the shortage in essential materials like the chip and parts. Many other factories began pausing their automobile production and began concentrating on producing the medical related materials and oxygen. But comparatively from the last year a gradual increase is happening in the case of Indian automobile industries and the world automobile industry has attained almost the earlier pace of progress. Lets hope for the best.
