Thar; Rugged & Powerful!

Mahindra Thar;

The Rebirth of the God.

The off-road vehicle segment is vastly spread out with different companies and different types of SUV s. This segment is so being so popular around these days and with all these over crowdness of models there is still a king and emperor for this segment. The Emperor is the most popular and most loved, the son of Suzuki the Maruthi Gipsy. And the King is the Thar the most common and most famous Muscleman of Indian automobile company Mahindra Motors. Mahindra is an old popular auto mobile manufacturing industry born in India. Mahindra’s legacy of off-road is well known all over the world.

Mahindra Major was the Legacy starter of the company. Major was used as the cop vehicle and other official purposes. The Major was so popular due to the confidence given by the Jeep. It is an ATV (All Terrine Vehicle) capable of doing any kind of off-road and we can trust it in any kind of situations. Then the new generation of the Major, the THAR was Born. The Thar once again proved the legacy of Mahindra’s off-road capability and quality. The dearest companion of every Indian off-road enthusiasts and off-road racers is undoubtedly the THAR.

As the time has changed Thar was subjected to many many improvements and changes and each new updates made the Thar more popular and common. Thar is modification friendly and that made it much more popular. Now this is the 21 st century and every cars are subjected to many many changes and evolutions that blow every auto enthusiasts minds. And Mahindra has bought their Ace player to the ground with jaw dropping changes. Now we are going to have a look at the fully packed powered up Superman of Mahindra, the King of off-roaders the new THAR.

Now Lets Get into the detailed review of the Beast ;

Exterior:

When we get a first look of the New Thar we will definitely doubt if we have got deja vu because we have seen it somewhere else. The body lines the bold squary wheel arches and the muscular feel have been familiar for us we will even think that if we have got a Wrangler..... that is because the new Thar is the younger brother of the American beast the Jeep Wrangler. And for an Indian it is definitely worthy buying a Thar than a wrangler because Thar is integrated with almost all features of the wrangler maybe more than that having some unique Mahindra touches.

In the front portion you can see a 6 slatted grill which is a bit different from the wrangler because that design element is copyrighted only for the Jeep. But don't worry you can always modify the grill into a seven slatted one after-market and then it looks like a Wrangler the American giant. Apart from that minute difference there is no more difference between the new Thar and the jeep wrangler. The new Thar is more muscular than the old Thar and a bit boxy because of the design elements copied from the jeep but still it is aerodynamic.

The retro styled round headlamps reminds us of both the Wrangler and the traditional Thar design such an amazing work. The indicator lights are placed on both wheel arches which is the element lended from the jeep design philosophy and we can see the Mahindra logo placed in black colour which looks aggressive. The no chrome policy in the front end has made the Thar more bold, sporty and attractive. Overall the front end of the new Thar is almost cloning of the Jeep Wrangler but it is still a Mahindra with all its might and beauty. You know, the King is Always A King.

Now coming to the side profile of the new Thar there is a bit dimensional variations from the old Thar and has become attractive and bold in nature. The side profile also gives us a wrangler look which I have said above. This Wrangler sketches are most common in the new Thar because the design philosophy is taken from Jeep. The front squared wheel arch is giving the Thar a rugged look and the body line starting from the front hood and ending on the rear and has given a muscular feel and aerodynamics to the Thar and coming to the left end we can see the common 4X4 logo given to every Thar which is a Mahindra signature. and the big 16 inch wheels gives the vehicle a massiveness and road presence along with high off-road capability.

The off-road capability of Thar is know even to a little kid so there is no need if wasting time saying about the off-road capability of the Thar and is good for on road long drives too but with only 2 people but I am not saying that the rear seats are that bad they are good but not so comfortable for long drives. And overall the side profile of the Thar is just conventional like the old Thar but there is a little bit increase in the wheelbase compared to the old one.

And now we are going to look how the rear end of the Thar is. The first thing that a Thar lover will notice is that it is wrangler itself without the badging... just amazing work done there. The second most striking changes given to the rear end is the design of the rear lamps. It is quiet new design that of a jar, yes the jar we use to store water and we have a conventional rear door as in old Thar with a stepini on it. The point in there is that we here have a new alloy design which looks really rough tough bold and muscular it helps to gain road presence, but you know what Thar is an icon and the new update just makes it more iconic so you can definitely say that it is a head turner. For an Indian he will be more happy to ride a Thar than riding a BMW or Mercedes Benz and that is the value points of Thar’s popularity.

Coming to the bottom of the Thar we can see a black cladding covering both sides which increases the bold character and rough and tough attitude of the Thar which is essential for an off-roader. So over all the new Thar is both conventional and new gen with almost every elements of the American giant the Jeep Wrangler along with some Mahindra touches. Now lets hop inside the car and check it out.....

Interior:

Hopping into the new Thar will make you amazed for a second for sure because there is a whole lot of wow factors regarding the quality and there is drastic improvement in organisation of interior. When you get in you are welcomed by the premium black finished interior and cushioned seats with amazing lumbar support Comparing to the old Thar you can see mind blowing changes in the build and interior plastic quality. The plastic elements are a bit hard and all total it gives a rugged feel to the interior. The interior is organised in such a way that it creates a mood for off-roading or going for an adventure trip which is amazing and much needed element.

Now when you are in the driver seat you can see a steering column with digital display on the center and 2 analogue meters on the either sides. There is a multi functional three spoke steering wheel with an aluminium element and with all functional buttons like call attend call decline volume control etc... which is for the infotainment system. We can see a Mahindra logo in the centre of the steering wheel. On the right side of the meter console we can see an AC vent and some functional buttons for light  adjustment and all, the borders of the rounded AC vents are given a piano Black finish and a pattern which gives a premium feel and increases elegance. Coming to the centre console we can see a 7 inch touch screen infotainment system with a clear view and good graphics quality.

Coming down through the centre console we can see the circular AC vents and AC climate control function buttons and other buttons and then coming even more down we can see the off-road gear and the normal transmission gear. There are cup holders in the gear column and we can see a hand break with a chrome pusher. And as for a difference the power window switches are placed on the central column. Now moving to the co-captain seat we can see a glove box and a holder which is very very essential if you don't want too scratches yourself while off-roading. There are so many cup holders and storage spaces in the new Thar to store your items. Now coming to the rear seats of the Thar we can surely say that the seating position and comfort have been improved drastically because there is more legroom and comfort for the rear seats than the older versions. As Thar is commonly used for off-roading the upholstery materials used in the new Thar are washable and can be cleaned easily. This feature has been applied to the whole interior which is completely washable and can be easily cleaned. But the rear seats are not that comfortable for long trip because there is no that much space for a long trip. But as I said above this guy will take you comfortably on short trips which is kind of amazing in comparison with the old Thar and the boot space is too less for long trips with 4 people.

Now we can get a peek at the hood of this beast and know what is this beasts heart. While opening the hood you will be jaw dropped by the powerful engine given to him. A best and trustful op engine, the M Stallion 150 TGDi which is kind of amazing, giving enormous power for the beast and enabling to hit a top speed of 150+ which is really great you can feel the rev of the engine. When coming to the types of the variants we have 2 types of variants two fuel models and two types of transmission. They are; Diesel automatic and Manual
