Today Our Hosts are on a date with the latest American Electric Beauty, the Lucid Air Dream edition. So let us hear about the car from Eric Matthews and James Deckard.
Eric, have you heard of Lucid Motors? Lucid Motors, yeah the name seems a bit familiar man. Yeh man it is because they have recently got on the news. There have been roumers of Lucid Motors producing something exciting which is capable of beating the popular one's. Yes finally there is going to be something more powerful and competitive in the electric vehicle segment man the game is on. Yeah you may doubt that is there not enough competition with the German manufacturers BMW, Audi and Mercedes Benz introducing their own EV models. Yeh the doubt is correct, but let me tell you something in secret they are not really dedicated EV's. Actually they are not EV-Dedicated platforms but they can be simply concluded as the platforms which are originally built for IC cars and later converted into EV platforms. Yah bro the fact that they do so is to cut the cost of many processes. Aah that is pretty big topic to talk about, now lets come back to the topic. The Lucid is another Electric Car Manufacturing company from America, and for the irony the CEO of the company is an ex Tesla guy who worked under the manufacturing unit for Model S, so something is squeaky on that. Ha haa man the guy, who also designed the Mazda MX5 4th generation, as you will think quit Tesla and started his own company called the Lucid, uh ooh sorry it was initially named as the Atieva. Lucid was born on the year 2007 and is headquartered in California USA. They introduced their first High class Luxury Electric Sedans called the Air recently during the 2021 and as per reports they will be delivered during the late October.
OK Now jade that is good enough for the introduction, now let us meet the Air high class luxury electric sedan which is clearly making the owners of both Tesla Model S and Mercedes S Class ti rethink about their choice. The Lucid Air is available on the market in four variants namely the Air Dream Edition, Air Grand Touring, Air Touring and the Air Pure edition. The last variant is the base model and makes me think of that perfume stuff which you hang in your bathroom for fragrance, Weird!. Here we are talking about the Dream edition which is apparently the top dog. The dream edition mainly focuses on performance and power without compromising the element of Luxury. This thing is again divided into 2 sub models namely the Range, which as it says focuses on calmer driving ensuring greater mileage with a less amount of power flowing through the wheels. But the Performance variant is entirely different from range version. The range version has got an unusual figures, that is exactly 1111 HP and apparently a bit lower range of 758 KM. So mate, comparing this with the direct rival the Tesla top dog, the Model S Plaid, this gorgeous is a bit more heavier than the Tesla Boy, which is a clear disadvantage man. Well the good news is that 400 pounds will not be significant in pulling the car off the start line with such a mind blowing acceleration making your hands sweat. Yah man well that will be a good transition for me to introduce you to the driving modes of this electric saloon.
So as it turned out, this worlds fastest charging American EV have three significant drive modes which are Smooth Swift and Sprint. Eric this thing is pretty accurately named. Yah while you can have a smoother eco friendly and calm drive in the smooth mode, you can go on full blown adrenaline junkie ride with your best mates, the speed and power. Mate when you say full blown you literally mean it, the whole 1111 horses are working on their full potential waiting and obeying your orders. Jade, do you know what makes it possible?. Well apparently the drivetrain, yeah man this thing has dual electric motors where each are placed on front and rear ends of the car, each constituting almost 670 horses to put out a combined power of 1111 HP. And jade this thing is having the enormous weight all due to the massive battery packs sitting all around the floor and other spaces. Oh man but this thing has no sign of any massive weight it is having, this thing just flies straight away. Yea just like Jeremy Clarkson says Speed and Power!!. Mate there is another Halper's helper in here who plays significant role in achieving straight line speed and stability. That Mr Eric is undoubtedly the aerodynamics of this car, Yes J, this thing is having a drag coefficient of just 0.2 which is lowest ever, but not the first car to achieve it though. This achievement is now being shared by two, the EQS German and the Lucid Air Dream American.
There is one last bit on the mechanical side which makes this car so extremely comfortable to drive in even with this massive size and weight, can you say it Eric?. Is that the air suspension mate?. You got half wrong and half right, the suspension it is but this has no air suspension but the semi adaptive dampers with five link suspension which is surprisingly taking all the wight and abuse. Also there is one another factor which is so important for the safety of the car and the passenger, the breaking system. Yeah man this thing has solid breaking with a 6 piston calipers on the front and 4 piston calipers on the back.
How does it look mate?, for me looks are on of the big factor that make us buy and not buy a car or literally any thing. Well mate for me until now Tesla felt the perfect choice but this is literally making me rethink about the overall styling of the EVs. This just looks so stunning in the Eureka Gold paint job. Jade, what makes it even better is the way every other factor complements to it. The headlamps are really sleek and futuristic, way better than the Tesla. Yeah man Tesla is definitely destroyed in case of design. Eric, the front fascia has given a better look with the chrome accent and sleek lights like the headlight, and the headlight is stacked with arrays of almost 9000 micro lenses emitting out bright lights to make the clear visibility. Other than the sharp edges the front end is basically plane without much carvings and all, apart from the 2 air vents on the hood, and there are chrome accents scattered around as sleek lines which runs through the lower lip and surroundings. Yeah Jade all together this face looks a bit different and elegant. The side profile too is a bit plane but there are bulgy architecture lines running a bit like here and there, which are the continuation of the ones from the hood. One of the main highlights on the side profile is the 21 inch shoes which this beauty is wearing. Yah man they are named like the Aero dream and you know what, if the design looks so bad or awkward you can always take off the gloss black plates on the alloys to make it look more slim and cool. Man another feature about the side profile is the door handles and they are actually pop-up type. Yeah of-course make me feel like I am the VIP haha!!. The rear end is too well put together man, look at the way the tail lights are put together. Eric I will say you something for sure, the rear end is somewhat similar to a Skoda!. Man! Yes Kind of This thing has got a glass 'Canopy' as they say, and never doubt it its strong and can protect you from the heat of the one guy above. I like the way they have integrated the writing "LUCID" on the boot lid. Yea man totally cool.
That my friend is the best way to enter into the next priority of the user, the storage facilities. Ooh they say this thing has the largest froot or Frunk or whatever it is. You mean the biggest?!. Yes man the Laaargest!. Yeah this is big man this is big!. Jade , the tail end is give smooth and classy finish with the small spoiler on the rear end making it more aerodynamic and elegant. So overall the exterior is pretty well designed and elegantly put together without loosing the charm and causing too much drag lol!.
Now the best part again, the interior, Eric, the interior, just like the exterior is amazingly put together with class and smoothness. The interior feels so massive and peaceful in the Santa Monica themed upholstery. Jade, look at the alcantara finished roof and more Nappa leather accents running all around the interior. Look man the seats are given a dual tone finish too. Yah man on the rear end they are given some kind of ivory or beige finish. But on the other hand the front row captain seats are given a grey finish with classy texture. Another thing is that while the white or cream or whatever finish is given on the rear row have black outline piping and stitching on the headrests. Yes mate while the ones on the front row, given the black finish are given white border stitching and piping, great color contrasting. Yeah Eric, you know what,despite Air’s mid-size exterior, the interior is surprisingly spacious, with proportions akin to a full-size sedan. Mate, this is made possible by the exclusive powertrain components, miniaturized to create space for stretching out. And it’s not just roomy, it’s also brimming with ultra-luxe features like available massaging seats. Also mate to make the S Class jealous the Air Dream edition is also providing with an optional extra of Executive Rear Seating Package will offer a jet-style experience for two that lets you recline way back. But Jade according to the website, that feature will be available on the coming days. Then man I can surely say that this is absolutely gonna rock the show. Now man inside the cabin, the steering wheel is pretty old school, not like the Tesla model S Plaid's yoke steering wheel. You mean that topless one? damn I hate that thing! Yeah I hate that one too.. but this thing is cool and classy with the brushed chrome inserts and overall upholstery. Also man the way they stamped "LUCID" on to the steering wheel also makes it feel luxurious. The infotainment screen is big and detailed with every accessories but no apple car-play. Lol that is interesting man!. Yeah the interior is also designed giving importance to storage and practicality. Man You can say this because there are a lot of pockets here and there. you know what jade there is another feature right by the infotainment screen. If you don't need it of feels like it is in the wrong place you can fold it out to its small cavity in the press of a button. So overall I think that interior is just amazingly put together and well finished in a feature rich futuristic and elegant manner.
Now coming to the most asked factor about an EV, the price , this is a bad thing for your pocket if you are somebody with an average salary, because this thing has starting range of $170,000 and can be maxed out up-to $230,000 . Which is absolutely the price similar to that of a Porsche Taycan Turbo S. That price is just breaking the mind and pockets of the normal guys who scrapped their Tesla's already while reading this. Well man being optimistic, if they can make the parts in more cheap rate without loosing the quality then you guys can dream of it. Yeah there is still hope my friend because this is just the pre production.
